comics

Hi S
My pasty anthology is coming together well now, im just waiting on a few more pages from different people. I am going to get it printed properly this time, I got a nice cheap quote for that so I’ll get 200 done. Then all I have to do is sell em. I finished my detective type story that I have put a bit of below, it came out nice I reckons. I have enjoyed doing an anthology except for at the start were I was worrying that no one else would want to be in it…
Im going to try doing lots of press releases and stuff like that to see if it helps sell any better, ive still not sold a single one of bog wizards 2 which is really bad, ive got loads of em piled up in my house still, boo hoo. I spent a lot having that copied too as its big and fancy. Never mind, maybe they will all sell in a rush or something.

Hard Boiled

I am writing some hard boiled private detective fiction for my pasty anthology. Its going to be one of them illustrated stories, i am quite pleased with the start of it so far.. what do you think?

Devil in a Blue Tabard

It was hot, too hot.

Even the pigeons had given up chewing expectantly at the discarded fag ends and chewing gum from last nights revellers in the forlorn hope they might have suddenly turned into food.

But I was still hungry. I had a sick knawing feeling at the bottom of my stomach, maybe it was fear of what ‘Weepy’ Arkwright would do to me if I failed to find his missing dame, or maybe it was because I hadn’t eaten a thing since last night at Abra-kebab-ra. And that seemed a lifetime ago now. I should never have took this job on, but they were going to stop my Jobseekers Allowance and put me on a re-training scheme. Times were hard.

I paused to look at my watch by the stone elephants. It was broke. I cursed my no-good father who had given me the watch in his will. It had never told good time. I flung the cheap Casio from my arm into a handy wastebin. My eyes lifted upwards and I gazed at the clock high up on the town hall. Not too shabby, Greggs the Bakers would soon be open and I could eat. I patted the trunk of the nearest elephant ‘You and me kid’ I said ‘If you weren’t a piece of stone pavement furniture, we could’ve been pals’.

I sat on the town hall steps and lit my thirtieth cigarette of the day. The heavy metal shutters on the front of Greggs began to slowly lift. ‘I wonder what they are guarding against’ I ruminated, ‘Hordes of starving drunks, perhaps’ I threw my cigarette butt to the floor and crushed it beneath my cheap spats. I noticed with dismay the sole was starting to fall off. ‘We’ve all seen better days…’ I muttered.

Tuesday 7 April 2009

hello

hi s
how are you today? how was your wedding dress, i forgot to ask, does it fit?
i heard off some comedy magazine (its about comedians not just a funny magazine) today looking for cartoons so i'm going to have a go at that... i'd never heard of them before so they are sending me a few issues so i can have a look. they are called 'the fix' ever heard of them? (or your brother?). they are from london.

i am very bored at work today. grrrrr. it is annoying me at the moment, i want to leave really but i cant afford it. not till the recession is over anyhow. i wouldnt want to have to get another crappy job.

morning

hi s
how are you? i had a good time in london but now i am knackered and back in work, i have blisters and my legs are all done in, and my back hurts and i have a terrible liver. i am not going to drink for a few days to recover. i had 10 hours sleep last night which i needed no end.
sadly didn't sell much at the thing, only 8 comics and 2 trades. didnt manage to sell any copies of bog wizards 2! why is that? i dont really understands it. no one south of watford has ever heard of me...
i was talking to lots of people especially francesca and then i went to the pub and had 3 pints of stella on a totally empty stomach and then i got interviewd for some fancy london pod cast radio station. sadly i was drunk and dont know if i make any sense at all... i wont be able to listen to it anyhow as i hate the sound of my own voice on recordings. i sound like a fool. i bet i just babbled on about stuff...
then i got very drunk with will.
had a nice time rest of the time, just weak sales annoy me. had a lot of curry.

Wednesday 25 March 2009

Hi s
Have you heard back about the interview yet? I guess it wont be for a while yet. I hope you get it.
Anything else going on?

I’ve had a week off from drawing as I did loads last week , instead I have been endlessly stapling copies of bog wizards 2, fun fun fun. I will finish the last ones tonight. I have been thinking about horror story im going to do next, its about a mad old bearded artist living in an old house. Im going to try and make it actually scary which will be very hard, but im going to give it a go.

The Story of Greggs

heres the script i've wrote for my anthology entry

THE STORY OF GREGGS

Not many people know this but Greggs the Bakers was actually founded by Royalty. King Henry VIII to be precise. He named it after his favourite pet, a large brown Muscovy duck.

Not much changed for Greggs for several hundred years. They did perfect the cunning art of how to get jam or cream inside their doughnuts and éclairs utilising the aid of the wisest alchemists of the day, including John Dee and Roger Bacon.

Then one day at the end of the 18th century a struggling engineer named Joshua Arkwright entered Greggs head office with a plan. It was for his revolutionary steam powered Whirling Pasty Construction Device. The Managing Director immediately saw the prospects and three years later Greggs built the world’s first factory.

Throughout Victorian times Greggs catered to the cream of society. Sherlock Holmes was a regular visitor to the Baker Street branch while his arch-nemesis Moriarty trained a tiny Sumatran poison monkey to steal him his favoured cream horns and iced fingers. It’s nimble fingers could easily reach inside the glass counters and procure the baked treats for it’s evil master.

Greggs were always at the forefront of business practice and commissioned the first ever celebrity advert, starring Raffles the Gentleman Thief.

Wanting to give something back to the community Greggs founded one of the best hospitals in London- ‘St Greggs Hospice’. At first it catered solely for the children of those maimed or killed in hot filling accidents but later widened it’s reach to all the people of the city.

In modern times Greggs has opened branches on every single high street and in every shopping centre in the UK, and has even spread abroad. By royal decree any town without a branch is known as a ‘pasty free zone’ and is shunned by all right minded people.

Greggs were also the first pasty to be served on the International Space Station and are planning a special Space Bake to be taken on any manned mission to mars. Top scientists have been working non stop to prefect a zero gravity flaky crust which will remain stable under the harsh conditions of space.

So as Greggs leads us into the bright future let’s stop to remind ourselves of the glorious history of this most famed of British Bakers. Three cheers for Greggs!

pasty based anthology

hi s
i am making a pasty (and pie) based anthology of comics based around the time worn theme of 'greggs pasties' so if you have any time have a think of any ideas that would be cool. i have 2 other people up for it so i think it will actually happen, nice. pastys are under valued in our culinary society, but i like them. also greggs is funny.

Feeling Better

I am. I have decided it is much cooler to have turned down Emmerdale, than to have been turned down by Emmerdale.

Wednesday 21 January 2009

more ideas

im full of ideas me at the moment.
i like writing them here as it helps me think of them, and also not forget them.

i have thought of two bog wizarsd spin off stories. one is set in ancient japan and is an adaption of a 1920's japanese story called 'hell screen' by the bloke who did 'rashomon'. it would be good with the characters of bog wizards.

the other is that mars thing i wanted to do, do you remember that, about 3 or 4 pages long for the uk mini comix thing anthology
it is called 'under the sign of mars' and has bog wizards character going to a ye olde fayre and seeing a fortune teller in a tent who warns him that mars is in the ascendence and he will face danger. then he has to fight a giant crab, etc, till the end. it probably turns out the old fortune teller is controlling the crab, possibly a steam powered robot. in order to drum up trade.
this one needs some work yet.....

Tuesday 13 January 2009

new idea

i've had a new idea for a comic. it will be called 'peasant!' and be about medieval peasants. i am going to find some books on their miserable lives to read up on so i can "think" of ideas. they will be very miserable - maybe rebelling against their cruel overlords and knights and that. maybe they can all die of the plague at the end.

i am happy to have a new idea. i've had a couple of other medieval based ideas recently that didnt go anywhere so maybe i can work them in

good luck

good luck for emmerdale! i hope it goes great!
